Statement regarding the unlawful killing of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement

The Surrey Coalition Board, staff team, volunteer team and wider membership were appalled and saddened by the harrowing footage of a Police Officer in America killing an unarmed citizen.

We support the Black Lives Matter movement in its campaign against racism across the world.

The inequalities that members of our community still face are unacceptable.  We wish to declare our determination to tackle racism and create a more inclusive and fair world.

As an organisation, we will work to address the under-representation of Disabled people who are Black and those who are from other minority ethnic groups.  This will mean that more of the Disabled community are being heard by social care and health service providers and commissioners.  We will challenge ourselves and each other to ‘call out’ discrimination when we see it and to be actively anti-racist.
