Welcome to the weekly email update. This update includes:
1. Coalition Update
NEW DATE FOR THE COALITION AGM – we are very sorry that we have had to change the date for our virtual AGM. This will now be held on Wednesday 24th November from 10.30 am – 11.30 am on Zoom (with phone-in or SMS relay options).
Last week was a very busy meeting and forum week! We had steering group meetings for digital inclusion, a mental health lunch and learn, the Hard of Hearing Forum, all our usual informal social activities and a lot more!
We have been working with an organisation called We Coproduce and Surrey County Council to start work on a new Direct Payments strategy for Surrey. There will be lots of different ways that you can get involved in this if you would like to and we look forward to sharing further information very soon.
The staff team also took the opportunity last week to meet up in Nonsuch Park (so we could do so outside). It was the first time some of the newer members of the team had met face to face, due to the pandemic, so it was long over-due!

10. Your Questions Answered – Trust In Policing With Cc Gavin Stephens
The nation has been rocked by the actions of a serving police officer. Last week we all heard, for the first time, how Wayne Couzens used his position to falsely arrest and then subject Sarah Everard to the most appalling attack before killing her. Surrey Police are committed to making the streets and homes safe to all, especially for women and girls, but they know through messages to them, that you have concerns and questions.
To address these, the Surrey Police Chief Constable Gavin Stephens took questions from the public live on Facebook and Instagram on the evening of Friday, 1 October. You can watch the video here. There were a huge number of questions asked, so for ease some common themes and concerns have been identified and pulled together into a Q&A document which can be accessed here.
National Braille Week lunchtime discussion with Sight and sound Technology, UKAAF and the Braillists Foundation –
When: Tuesday 12th October at 12:30. To celebrate National Braille Week, we’re delighted here at Sight and Sound Technology to be collaborating with great friends and colleagues from UKAAF, the UK Association for Accessible Formats and the Braillists Foundation, for a lunchtime chat on Tuesday October 12th, at 12:30.
Imagine a world without Braille? Can you think about how Braille has impacted positively on your life, or on the lives of people with whom you work? Maybe you’re a family member or a friend of a Braille user and you’ve seen first-hand how this revolutionary code has made a difference? Well, that’s the topic for this lunchtime meeting. The panel will talk not only about their own use of Braille in their personal and professional life, but we will actively be encouraging audience input and they want to hear your Braille stories and experiences.
In short, if you are passionate about Braille and want to shout it from the rooftops, this lunchtime event is most certainly for you! Please register here to attend this session. https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5dj-kdPKRwWg_oH0yoTrOQ
