1.  Coalition Update

Recent Hospital Experience – Quite a few members have been in contact to let us know about their recent experience in hospital.  They have raised several issues around admission, discharge and care whilst in hospital.  We are planning to write to the CCG about what we have heard.  If you have been in hospital recently and would like to share your experience, good or bad, please contact Yasmin.

Surrey Coalition of Disabled People want to find out what people want from mental health hospitals – Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are replacing the old Abraham Cowley Unit in Chertsey with a new inpatient facility, and will later build a new hospital in the East of the county. They have already completed Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford in 2015.

They’ve been consulting people who use services and their carers about their plans, but we want to make sure as many people as possible have the chance to make their voices heard.

We’ve created a survey asking what matters to you, and how you think the Trust could make the environment feel safe, welcoming, calming and therapeutic.

If you’ve been to a mental health hospital before, either as a user of services or visitor, you can also tell us what you think worked well and what could be improved.

If you use SABP services or care for someone who does, we’d really like to know your views. There are 15 questions for people who have been to a mental health hospital before, and 9 questions for people who have not. You can skip any questions that make you feel uncomfortable.

The survey can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/vF6SQzaBwh

2.  Social/Peer support coming up

New Glee Club – We have a new social activity starting on Tuesday 3rd May at 4pm!  Charlotte will be hosting Glee Club! The theme for the first week is to choose a song which represents you! It could be your favourite song or one that tells us something about you. You can share your chosen song in any way you wish, including singing, playing a recording of the song or simply describing why you chose the song.  Please see attached document for more details.

Get More Active Event – Next Saturday, the 7th May is the second of our Get More Active Monthly Events at Nonsuch parkrun. Please see the attached flier for information. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please contact Katy by phone or SMS text on 07434865062 or by email at katy.hubbard@surreycoalition.org.uk

Free, virtual, inclusive dance sessions – In association with LimbPower and Sport England, Paradance UK are running free, weekly online sessions until the end of May and they would love you to join them. Whatever style of dance and music you enjoy the inclusive dance sessions have something for everyone.
