As a Director of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People and user of both mental and physical health services, Alison cares passionately about disabled people and their social life or rather lack of it!! This can be a salvation, bringing good quality to their lives, which in turn gives happiness, social interaction and stimulation, within their disabilities and their futures.
Alison has gained considerable experience and knowledge of the above while being a service user with mental & physical ill health. She also ran a User Led group for social activities at Oakleaf in Guildford which supports people with mental health issues. The social groups was extremely valuable in helping people build confidence with shopping for daily food, clothes & how to manage cafes and restaurants. Many people with mental health issues do not have the confidence to do these things on their own. Alison has now retired and therefore reluctantly given up her role of running the social group as well as teaching upholstery to the service users.
Now involved with Enter and View visits to Care Homes and Hospital wards, organised through Surrey LINk and Alison is also looking forward to volunteering at the Godalming HUB in the not too distant future.
