In and Out updates

On Thursday 22 June, Alex and Immy presented the In and Out report findings to Surrey and Borders Partnership (SABP)’s Governors at Dorking Halls. The Governors are local people with an interest in mental health services in Surrey and North-East Hampshire and hold SABP’s Board of Directors to account for the Trust’s performance. Future public meetings can be found here: Council of Governors Meetings : Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (sabp.nhs.uk)

From early to mid-2023, researchers from The Coalition and the Independent Mental Health Network (IMHN) consulted with a steering group made up of people with lived experience, carers and mental health professionals from SABP, to coproduce a list of 50 recommendations based on the In & Out Project’s report findings.

In our meetings, the team and memberships discussed the following:

  • What support could help individuals, their families and carers to safely avoid an unnecessary admission to hospital for a mental health crisis?
  • What support could enable people to get well more quickly and for admissions to be shorter?
  • How discharge arrangements could be improved?

The recommendations report will be available to download from The Coalition’s website at the end of July 2023. The team want to thank everyone who contributed to the In and Out report. Please continue to check back here to see updates about the recommendations.

Quote from slide above: “Managers and commissioners think that everybody understands mental health services; what they are like, what’s available, what phone lines are available, like the fact that Safe Havens exist. They take all these things for granted. But your average person in the street probably knows their GP, they know about A&E, you know, they might potentially have heard of CAMHS. But that’s probably it.” – Professional

I've not been out for ages; it was really lovely to get out.
