We’re working with the lovely staff at the Surrey Wildlife Trust on the Nextdoor Nature project. The project aims to increase wildlife friendly areas in our community and workplaces.
We’re lucky enough that The Coalition offices that we share with many other charities and voluntary organisations in Surrey have been selected as one of the places that will benefit from the scheme.
We’re holding an event on Friday 24th May to walk and talk about the grounds surrounding our office.
As you know we have some students from Treloar’s working with us at the moment so we’d thought we’d get their views too.
Nikki and Is, walked and wheeled around the building, taking some photos and Is, gave her views on how we could make it more wildlife friendly.
Is suggested, colourful flowers outside the main entrance to make it look more appealing to staff/guests. Is did suggest that we think about the Winter to make sure that we have some colour throughout the Winter months too.
Another suggestion was raised beds of wildflowers or mixed herbs to the right of the building as you approach the building. Could we grow vegetables in the raised beds. Is was keen that we used raised beds to prevent animals munching on the veg! She also suggested we grow onions and garlic which may put off the foxes etc!
At the back of the building, Is suggested cutting the grass and cut back the tree that’s blocking the path to make it fully accessible. Is also suggested purchasing some benches that have curved edges, are a bit longer and are wheelchair friendly.
Thanks Is for your ideas!
