The Pathways to Change explores the cultural, religious and language barriers South-Asian adults’ and their carers may experience in Surrey and North-East Hampshire’s mental health services. The project is a collaboration between Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) and Surrey Coalition of Disabled People and builds on their previous report on the mental health impact of Covid-19 on minority ethnic communities in Surrey, and barriers to accessing support.
Last week, Salem and Alex met with community leaders and members from the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community UK to discuss what they felt were the biggest challenges to using mental health services, and ways to work together on Pathways to Change. This week, Salem and Alex discussed mental health service use with a Woking women’s group, organised by SMEF’s Many Hands project.
To get involved with Pathways to Change, take part in a short online survey (deadline extended to Sunday, 4 June 2023) or drop by the football game, organised by the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community UK on Sunday, 28 May 2023 from 2pm in Aldershot to talk to Salem and Alex.
Researchers will be conducting more follow-up focus groups in person and online until June 2023. If you are interested in co-hosting a focus group for Pathways to Change, please e-mail Salem on salems@smef.org.uk for more information.
