Rail Ticket Office Closures – updates

In February 2023, the Coalition went to Number 10 Downing Street to hand over a petition against the closure of ticket offices and removal of train guards. This petition was signed by over 150 organisations.

The Coalition continues to campaign against England’s rail ticket office closures by:

1. In July we met with representatives from South Western Railway to discuss ticket office closures and the impact this would have on Disabled people.

2. On Tuesday 29 August 2023, Surrey-based Disabled people will share their thoughts on the government’s proposal to close rail ticket offices with the UK’s largest railway franchise, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). GTR operates Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express, and will be collecting feedback from Coalition members by ‘journey mapping’. Journey mapping helps organisations to understand how customers experience their product or service, and how they feel along the way. This meeting will be online by Zoom from 11:30 to 12:30. If you would like to join, please e-mail involvement@surreycoalition.org.uk for details.

3. Next Thursday, The Coalition’s CEO, Nikki Roberts and Chair, Jonathan Fisher will be visiting Number 10 Downing Street again to highlight the importance of keeping rail ticket offices open and guards on trains for Disabled people.
