Sunday afternoon swimming in the sunshine!

Preparations continue for the Superhero Tri with a visit to the lake for three of our swimmers to get some open water swimming practise. Despite it being a warm day, we all wore wetsuits as these are required on event day. It takes a bit of time to wiggle your way into a wetsuit – in fact it can feel like harder work than the swimming! Wetsuits need to be tight fitting to help with warmth and buoyancy and they can be a bit uncomfortable until you get into the water.

Once we had wiggled into the suits, we went down to the beach area next to the lake. We had a look at the circuit from the jetty to get our bearings and for that all important selfie! Then we got in and spent a few moments getting the feel of the wetsuits and acclimatising to the water before setting off on a gentle lap of the lake. There are certain points around the bank where you can stand so we did that and took some floating breathers – it’s really good for your confidence to know that if you are getting tired there are places you can stop or you can just float in a suit and be perfectly safe. Of course, at an organised venue there are lifeguards too and on the day, there will be people in kayaks to help keep us safe and heading in the right direction!

It was a beautiful day for a swim and lovely to be in amongst nature. There were plenty of moorhens and coots swimming with their chicks too! Before long we had completed a lap and we are now confident we will be able to complete the distance on the day!
