Our wonderful member, Ted, won the Volunteers Award as part of the Reigate & Banstead Volunteer Awards. Unfortunately Ted wasn’t able to make the presentation evening in July so we asked the Mayor to pop in to the Belfry Centre to present Ted with his very much deserved award.
The Mayor said ‘It was an absolute pleasure to present Ted Pottage with his Volunteers Award at the Coffee Cup in the Belfry Shopping Centre, Redhill, Redhill amongst family, friends and members of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People.’
The Mayor also said ‘We need more Teds!’
We nominated Ted for the award because Ted willingly gives his time and knowledge to help others. He is a member of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People’s Hard of Hearing Forum, he is a regular contributor to Wheelmap, an online map service that helps people find and mark wheelchair accessible locations, he volunteers for the National Trust and local Park Run, and he campaigns for more establishments to provide SMS contact options, as these are vital to the deaf community.
Ted always makes a point to check for hearing loop systems in every venue he visits, he will often arrive early at an event to help set up a hearing loop and he isn’t afraid to speak up about the importance of installing a hearing loop in venues that don’t have them.
Ted is an all-round good guy and will always give help to those that need it. We feel honoured and lucky to have him as a member of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People.
Thank you for everything that you do for others Ted!
