Kimberley’s review of the ‘I Swear’ film

Kimberley, The Coalition’s Project Officer, shares her review of the film ‘I Swear’.

One of the perks of being a Cineworld card holder is getting to see secret screenings. It’s always quite strange to go to a cinema and have no idea what you are seeing until it comes up on the screen. It’s also fun to see other people’s reactions. Sometimes the film will be really good and worth seeing or the complete opposite!

I had seen the trailer for I Swear and wasn’t convinced it was something I wanted to see so when it came up as being the secret screening film, I wasn’t sure what to think. I just told myself it might be better than you think. It absolutely was.

The film is a true story of a man called John Davidson from Scotland who as a teenager developed Tourette’s syndrome. I really didn’t know much about Tourette’s at all. I always thought it was a condition that meant you couldn’t control swearing and shouting. I didn’t know there was so much more to it. The tics and the hurting of yourself are just a few things that I learned.

The film follows his story and his struggles as he often gets into trouble for saying things he shouldn’t! The film is both funny and emotional at the same time. There are a lot of innuendos and moments that make you laugh out loud. It was truly inspirational to see that despite everything John went through and the way he was treated and misunderstood, he still made something of his life and went on to achieve great things.

The acting was incredible. I was in awe of the actors and just what it must of taken to perfect that role. It is a film that I believe everyone should see at some point. Just beware of the language!

For me it was 5 stars!
