I started my career in 1989 volunteering for the Southampton Resettlement Project working alongside people with lived experience, which shaped my commitment to ensuring the voices of people using services are heard and influence policy decisions, service design and delivery. I’ve worked in the homelessness, social care and drug and alcohol treatment sectors in the voluntary sector, central and local government. I’ve got experience of being a Trustee in other organisations, including Richmond Fellowship, Hestia and Royal Trinity Hospice.
I’m currently Director of Client Services for Transform Housing & Support and work closely with members of our Client Forum to shape and continuously improve our services. Many of our clients have disabilities and our purpose is to work alongside and support them to live empowered and fulfilling lives.
On a personal note, I live in Surrey with Herbert (the cat) and my partner who identifies as having a disability. He has had to put up with my limited carer abilities over the years, although I have played a support/ advocacy role when negotiating the social care and health systems. I’m excited to be joining the SCDP Board and hope to contribute and learn in my new Trustee role.
