Volunteers’ Week – Q&A with our Tech Angel volunteer

It’s Volunteers’ Week and we’re sharing our recent chat with one of our longest-serving volunteers to hear about their experiences with Tech Angels. Meet Phil, who has been lending his tech expertise for nearly four years and stumbled upon us through an online advert.

Q: What attracted you to volunteering with us?

Phil: I had been volunteering as a digital buddy at Egham library helping people with general issues concerning computers, phones, tablets, internet access etc so this seemed a natural continuation of the service as the library was closed for the duration.

Q: What have been your highlights?

Phil: A few times I have seen people who have had some kind of kit for ages and basically know how to use it but have never explored the possibilities. Showing people how to use iPlayer, YouTube, send photos to family and how to ask google stuff can be very rewarding when they suddenly realise the power at their fingertips and really take it on by themselves, beyond their previously self-imposed boundaries.

Thank you, Phil for sharing your experience with us and for volunteering as a Tech Angel.
