We’re looking for some new trustees!

Trustee Role (Voluntary Role)Closing date Friday 17th January 2025

Are you good at sticking to New Year’s resolutions? Or are we the only ones that can’t remember our resolution from last year! Do you want to make a real difference, not just for the first few weeks of January but for the future! More than 75% of our trustees are people with lived experience and are making a difference every single day.

About Us

We’re a super friendly, amazing charity that punches above its weight. We’re new kids on the block in the charity sector, having registered as a charity in December 2023. However, the organisation has been around for about 30 years as a not-for-profit company prior to our charity registration.

What We Do

The Coalition is run and managed by Disabled people for Disabled people. We enable and empower Disabled people and those living with a long-term health condition to be an active and central part of the community. We proactively work with health, social care, and community partners to co-produce services, strategies, and policy. We campaign for choice and control to achieve our legal rights and entitlements. We identify and respond to gaps in support to meet the needs of Disabled people. We spotlight, celebrate, and champion equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Join Us

We’re currently looking for a few new trustees to join our wonderful board to help steer the charity through its next exciting period of development. We’re about to embark on developing our first strategic plan as a charity, so it’s an excellent time to get involved!

We welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds, whether you are an experienced trustee or wanting to take your first step at board level. We would like to increase the diversity and life experience of our board and are particularly interested in people who offer one or more of the following:

  • Experience or skills to support our team in the following areas: Commissioning Services; Income Generation; Enterprise/Business Development; Marketing/Communications
  • Are a Disabled person or have a long-term health condition

Trustees are unpaid Directors of the charity, who have overall control of it and work together to oversee its strategy, direction, and aims. In essence, trustees are responsible for making sure the charity does what it was set up to do.

  • Trustees meet every 8 weeks for 1.5 hours, normally during the day via Zoom. However, we’d like to try and introduce the occasional in-person meeting over the next year.
  • In addition, trustees need to allow time to read papers ahead of meetings. We also have a strategy and finance subcommittee that meets every 8 weeks. Trustees are invited to join these in line with their experience, skills, and interests.
  • There is a range of opportunities to get involved in The Coalition’s work outside meetings, should you have the time and wish to do more.

What we offer in return is a great opportunity not just to make a difference in an area that matters to you, but also to develop your skills. You will be making strategic decisions, influencing, and shaping innovative projects and helping improve the health and wellbeing of our community. We can reimburse for any travel and out-of-pocket expenses and provide support through an induction period.

If you are interested in the role, please email Nikki Roberts, CEO at Nikki.roberts@surreycoalition.org.uk Nikki is happy to have an informal chat with you and can send you the application forms.
